Living Room

This connects to my concept because the back piece “breaks” into the wall plane. From there the handle comes out from that piece. The whole piece doesn’t create a perfect rectangle or square, creating a void. When someone uses the handle the void starts to be filled. The handle signifies an incomplete loop and the separation of pieces.

Kitchen

This applies to my concept of separation and void. The irregular shape of the tile creates a visual separation as the eye jumps around. The tile is an L-shape, if another piece was added this would create a perfect square. The missing space connects to the concept of void. The grout also creates a zig zag which shows the visual separation and gives a feeling of breaking.

Dining Room

This connects to my concept of breaking and void. The metal inlay quite literally breaks in the metal. A void is also created in the stone to allow for the metal. The two materials create a contrast showing a separation between the materials. The L-shape also gives the look of stitching the materials together, as if they were broken. It also allows for the countertop to broken up visually.
Guest Room

The back wall of each bed room features a wood detail that represents the concept of breaking. It looks as if the wood pieces have been separated from each other. The ceiling has a darker color than the walls allowing for those planes to be broken up as well. The bedside sconces are come out of the wall and through the wood which connects again to the concept of breaking. The lighting fixture helps to break up the space vertically and the angled shape helps support the concept.
