Illumination: Golden Perspectives
Art Gallery
Process

The theme of this gallery is focused around the different uses of gold throughout history and different cultures. These are just a few of the selections made in a group of 20 artworks. It was important to show how gold and gold leaf have been used throughout different cultures. Gold tend to represent wealth and godliness and this can be seen throughout the artworks. It was also important to find ways that the gold could be shown on within the space.
Blocking Diagrams

The space was a previously an architecture studio. It was important to create spaces for the back of house and staff without taking away from the gallery space.

Entrance Space
Entering the space, the user is able to see how the gold is highlighted by the use of dark blue. The desk is also back lit by LED lights, again adding to the detailing of Illumination. The desk also has a reflective star element. As well as a triangle cut out of wheelchair users.
Scared Piece Space
The piece chosen to be the scared artwork for the show is The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. This piece was chosen for it's overwhelming and beautiful use of gold. The piece is embedded into the wall with a rounded bevel around it. This helps to bring a sense of importance to this piece of art.

Overall Perspective
In the center of the space there is a column with a custom pattern on it. The pattern is made from reflective paper and is in a star like form. The pattern is condensed at the top and becomes less condensed as it goes down. This gives the illusion that gold is falling down. In this perspective one can see the spot light that would be on each piece. There is also an interactive screen where one can make their own digital gold jewelry from the pieces in the show.
